Baby Want An Hermes Watch

731002wc34.jpg

Have you seen the new Hermes watch collection? Some brainiac at the French luxury house finally realized that they were selling crap and redesigned the whole collection. We’re jonesing for the new men’s size Cape Cod with the double-tour leather band. Hmm… rent or watch, rent or watch?

Today’s Tote

We love tote bags (duh) and we love simplicity. It doesn’t get any tote-ier or simpler than the classic L.L. Bean Boat ‘n’ Tote. We’ve used them for years, for everything from a weekend worth of books and clothes to visit the in-laws (classic canvas with navy trim) to food supplies for Fire Island (camouflage waterproof version, easy to spot in the ferry’s luggage heap) to a day at the office (all-black with a black monogram).

The newest version of the Boat ‘n’ Tote is in a great navy and hunter Black Watch plaid with a zip top. Satisfies our want for simplicity and our crazy tartan obsession.

Club Monaco Canvas Tote

As you know, we’re mad for tote bags. We’ve got back problems and messenger bags are so over, but we’re always lugging around tons of stuff, so a tote is the only choice. This one is great because it’s big but not too big, it’s canvas (the cows thank you) and has lots of little pockets to keep you organized.

File this under things we would be if we weren’t poor and spending what little money we have on dumb stuff like food and electricity.

Hermes Belt News!

hermes-belt-2bg0g-1.jpg

For years, an Hermes shopper could buy the iconic H logo buckle and an assortment of straps separately. Then, in the dreaded 90’s, the rules changed and dictated that straps and buckles would only be sold as sets.

Well, an insider has tipped us that the dark cloud has lifted and you can once again buy single belt straps sans buckle. The latest colors are gorgeous, from the classic orange to white to bright yellow to denim. Ooh, we’re getting a bit faint. Of course, they are $350, so its unlikely we’ll be making any major purchases in the near future.

Thrift Score!

ms-fox-blk-200.jpg

Call us crazy (others have), but sometimes our favorite thrift stores call out to us. Not in like a voices-in-our-head kind of way but just an inkling that we NEED to get there TODAY. One memorable time, we ended up with a pirate’s booty of vintage Gucci belts for $1.99 each when we listened to our thrifter’s intuition.

Today was one of those days, so we hightailed it to the Upper East Side charity shop row, aka Third Avenue between 84th Street and 77th Street. Lo and behold, a fabulous pair of Peal & Co. for Brooks Brothers black velvet slippers with little fox heads embroidered in metallic silk thread. Just $40! We’re not ashamed to admit that we were hyperventilating a little bit.

We’ll be sporting them this fall with beaten jeans, a button down shirt, bowtie and wool sweater. Yes, as a matter of fact, we do like to look like a mannequin in the Polo store window.
